My Blood Approves Series

I so love my Kindle and the fact that I can buy a new book when it’s 1 A.M., I can’t sleep, and I‘m laying in bed in my jammies.

I just finished up a new series, My Blood Approves, by Amanda Hocking. I read all four of the books in the past two days. I told you before…I’m a book whore!

The author is young and self published. I really love the idea of being able to buy books and know that most of the money I’m spending is going directly to the author and not some big publishing house who is out for themselves and not the author’s best interest.

The books were good. Not the best I’ve ever read but good enough to make me want to go back and buy the next one, and the next one, and the next one. Not to mention all the sleep I did without to be able to read four novels in two days! The editing made me cringe but keep in mind that these are self published. You all know how it is when you’ve written something; it’s hard to edit when you already know what it’s suppose to say. Our brains just automatically correct it as we read and never pick up on what we’ve messed up. It’s the educator in me that wants to pull the red pen out and make corrections. That being said, I really don’t mind that much now that I know how new this author is and that she is self published.  These books were only $2.99 (ebook) each at Amazon.com.  Most novels (ebooks) are around $4-$8 so your getting a good deal.

This young lady has just published these books in the past 8 months and has already had an amazing amount of success. I can’t wait to read more from her and watch how she grows as a writer over the next few years. You can read more about her amazing success at her blog, http://amandahocking.blogspot.

Hi Justagirlblues,

I just came across a post of yours on Amanda Hocking’s blog (from early days). I then took a peek at your blog. And then an idea struck me.

I have just released my first novel - an espionage thriller set in the Far East.
At first glance it seemed it wouldn’t fit your interests

But then you blog that you enjoy “a new book when it’s 1 A.M., I can’t sleep, and I‘m laying in bed in my jammies”. And you want something “to get some things off my mind...” and honestly I think my book can do that.

To this point my greatest/most enthusiastic ‘fans’ have been those not in my original target audience (turns out my target audience may be just too lazy to read! Arrgh!).

I see the continuing upswell of the vampire/urban fantasy genre and it makes me wonder if these same readers (readers like you) would like another type of story with many of the same ingredients but also many new ingredients - something to spice up their reading. A book that is a change from their usual reading but with many of the same benefits - great scenes, great characters, a thrilling plot with amazing twists, good guys you can root for and bad guys you love to hate. Just no biting ;p

I’d love to get your thoughts. And of course I’d love you to read my book and tell your friends if you liked it. There’s always the free sample…. ;p

Anyway, thanks for reading,
Michael
